Experience the magic of southern Egypt with our Tour to Unfinished Obelisk, Philae Temple and High Dam, a captivating itinerary that blends ancient wonders, modern engineering, and stunning Nile views. As one of our most popular Aswan private-guided tours, this day trip is perfect for travelers seeking a deeper understanding of Egypt’s history, culture, and timeless beauty. Whether you’re visiting Aswan for the first time or returning to discover more, this excursion promises an unforgettable journey.
Unfinished Obelisk – An Ancient Marvel in the Making
Your Aswan Day Tour begins with a visit to the famous Unfinished Obelisk, a colossal monument that offers a unique insight into ancient Egyptian stone-carving techniques. Located in the granite quarries of Aswan, this massive obelisk—had it been completed—would have been the largest in the world. Measuring over 42 meters in length and weighing an estimated 1,200 tons, the obelisk remains partially attached to the bedrock, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see the exact methods used by ancient craftsmen. Your private Egyptologist guide will explain the history behind obelisks, their religious significance, and the tools used thousands of years ago.
Philae Temple – The Island of the Goddess Isis
Next, you’ll enjoy a scenic boat ride to the magnificent Philae Temple, one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, this ancient sanctuary was relocated to Agilkia Island in the 1960s as part of an international UNESCO rescue project to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. The temple’s elegant courtyards, towering pylons, and intricate reliefs make it a highlight of any Aswan excursion. As you explore, your guide will share myths and legends about Isis, Osiris, and Horus, and reveal the temple’s significance in both the ancient and early Christian eras.
High Dam – A Modern Engineering Masterpiece
Your journey continues to the High Dam, one of the most ambitious engineering projects of the 20th century. Completed in 1970, the High Dam stands as a symbol of Egypt’s modernization and its ability to harness the power of the Nile. From the top, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Lake Nasser stretching into the horizon. Your guide will explain how the dam was built, its role in controlling floods, providing hydroelectric power, and supporting agriculture, as well as its cultural and environmental impacts.
